2. What Data We Collect

2.1 Data You Provide

When you use KinBond, you may provide us with:

• Account information: Your name, email address, and password (stored as a salted hash — never in plain text).
• Family data: Your family name, colour, and icon or photo you choose.
• Profile data: Names, avatars, roles, and optional PIN settings for each family profile you create.
• Medication data: Medication names, types, schedules, and logged dose records you enter for family members.
• Chore data: Chore names, descriptions, assignments, due dates, and completion records including any photos submitted.
• Family Board content: Posts, photos, voice memos, and comments you share in your private family feed.
• Calendar events: Event names, dates, times, and notes you add to the shared family calendar.

2.2 Data Collected Automatically

When you use our app or website, we automatically collect:

• Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version — used for debugging and compatibility.
• Usage analytics: Anonymised, aggregated data about which features are used — no personal details are captured. We use this to improve the app.
• Crash reports: Anonymous crash logs to help us fix bugs. These do not contain personal data.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to provide and improve the KinBond service:

• To deliver the app features you use: medication reminders, chore management, family posts, and calendar events.
• To send push notifications relevant to your role and settings within your family group.
• To authenticate your account and keep it secure.
• To respond to your support requests.
• To improve the reliability, performance, and features of KinBond using anonymised usage data.
• To comply with our legal obligations.

We do not use your data to serve advertising. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third-party marketers.

4. Who We Share Data With

We share your data only with the following categories of trusted service providers, strictly to operate KinBond:

• Cloud hosting providers: Encrypted data storage on EU-based servers.
• Push notification services: Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) — used to deliver reminders to your device. Only device tokens and notification payloads are shared; no personal health data.
• Email delivery services: Used to send account verification and password reset emails only.

5. Data Security

We take your family's security seriously:

• All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3.
• Data at rest is encrypted using AES-256 encryption.
• Passwords are never stored in plain text — we use bcrypt with a unique salt per account.
• Access to production systems is restricted to authorised personnel only, with audit logging.
• We conduct regular security reviews and promptly address any vulnerabilities.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data associated with your account — including family data, medication records, chore history, and Family Board content — is permanently deleted within 30 days.

We may retain anonymised, aggregated statistical data (e.g., total number of medications logged) that cannot identify you, for service improvement purposes.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you have the following rights under GDPR:

• Right of access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification: Correct any inaccurate personal data.
• Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
• Right to data portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format.
• Right to restrict processing: Ask us to limit how we use your data.
• Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@kinbond.app. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children's Privacy

KinBond is designed for family use and may include profiles for children. Child profiles are created and managed by an Admin or Parent within the family group — children do not directly provide personal information to us.

We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe a child's data has been submitted without appropriate consent, please contact us at privacy@kinbond.app.

9. Cookies

Our mobile apps do not use cookies. Our website (kinbond.app) uses only essential cookies required for the website to function (e.g., session management). We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you via the app and update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of KinBond after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
